Ingredients
- 4 onions sliced
- 6 tbsp butter or margarine
- 1 tsp sugar
- 8 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 cup brandy or wine (this is optional)
- salt & pepper to taste

Instructions
- Melt butter in large pot.
- Add chopped onions - cook on medium until tender and golden. Stir often. Boil and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add sugar and cook for 1 minute.
- Add broth, bring to boil and cook for 12 minutes.
- Add brandy and cook for 2 minutes.
- Season.
- Serve with croutons or toast and sprinkled parmesan.
