HAYES FARM

Food Relief

At NBCHG we believe in EQUITY and FOOD SOVEREIGNTY. A person’s income should not be a barrier to accessing fresh, nutritious, local food.

All of the vegetables and fruit grown in our Teaching Gardens is distributed to community service organizations to support their own food relief programs as well as our pay-what-you-can farm stand at our Open Farm Days and program participants.

Since the pandemic, the need has grown exponentially.  In 2024, we grew and distributed $10,000 worth of produce at no cost to our partners and other program participants to ensure healthy, nutrient-dense food is reaching the bellies of those who need it most.

NB Community Harvest Gardens is proud to be a Good Food Organization since 2016.

With 1 in 4 people in Canada experiencing food insecurity, the work we’re doing is urgent. The resources and connections we receive through the Good Food Organization program are vital to ensuring the #Right2Food for all.

Partner U-Grow Program

We have several larger growing spaces available each season to share with our community partners who serve a vulnerable population.

We provide the land, infrastructure (tools, seeds, plants, amendments) and mentorship support – you provide a team of dedicated growers (no experience necessary) to grow food for your organization’s own food relief program. This program runs from April to November. If your organization is interested, please email info@NBCHG.org for more details.

You Can Feed Our Growth

NBCHG is funded through a combination of grants, community garden memberships and individual donations.

While we have had many wonderful, repeat funders, we cannot guarantee what our funding stream will be from one year to the next. We are asking for the community’s continued help in supporting our mission to grow food, grow minds and grow community.

If you are in a position to contribute financially, please consider a monthly or annual donation to help us shift the food sovereignty paradigm from scarcity to abundance.

You contribution helps us maintain:

  • A pay-what-you-can community teaching farm model to allow everyone to participate in our local food system
  • A living wage for our experienced staff, and fair compensation to bring knowledge keepers and experts in as guest educators
  • Yearly supplies, equipment, and maintenance of farm and garden infrastructure
