SEED OF THE WEEK: Mid-Season Planting Posted July 19, 2016 by Edee Klee

IMG_1083 (Medium)Even though it is mid-July, there is time to grow many crops that don’t mind the cold of Fall.

Spinach may not germinate now in the garden, but if you want spinach for late summer, germinate it where it is cooler and transplant it into the garden once it is growing.

Many root veggies have lots of time to grow, make sure you keep the seeds well watered to allow germination in the hot dry weather we have had.  Beans have time to grow but may succumb to an early frost unless protected.

Our Garden Director Carol Muncer is seen here sowing a row of beet seeds now for a cool weather harvest later this growing season in our Market Garden.
